My Journey with Young Living: More Than Just Oils
The life I’m living now—and the life I’ll be living a year from now and beyond—is so wildly beyond what I ever thought was possible for me. I grew up watching two hard-working parents who were constantly stressed, exhausted, and counting down the days until the weekend. That’s just what I thought life was—work, survive, repeat.
I was lucky to fall into teaching (completely by accident) and unexpectedly fell in love with it. But when I looked down the road at my future, all I saw was a life of waiting for weekends, limited time with my family, and no real space to dream beyond the routine.
Then I got pregnant with my son, Hawthorne. And suddenly, the idea of spending my days pouring into other people’s kids, only to come home too drained to pour into my own, didn’t sit right. I knew there had to be another way—even if I had to create it myself (which felt terrifying as a lifelong “follower”).
But let me be clear: network marketing never crossed my mind. An MLM? Gag. I had already had a negative experience with one—a pushy, guilt-trippy situation that left a bad taste in my mouth. So after Hawthorne was born, I manifested a dream job working from home with a boutique HR firm—flexible, remote, perfect.
At the same time, I had been sharing more of my “woowoo” side—talking about the oils I used for moon rituals, protection, meditation. My followers (many of whom had been with me since my “teacher-grammer” days) were curious. They had questions: What do these oils do? How do I use them? What would you recommend for XYZ?
And before I even realized what was happening, I had accidentally fallen into Young Living.
I wasn’t selling—I was just sharing. I had been using these oils for years but had never talked about them, and when I did, people naturally wanted to join me. I started sharing my diffuser blends, talking about how plants pair with astrological events, and offering recommendations for sleep, stress, and emotional well-being.
And then I got my first commission. And another. And another.
I was having fun. I found myself rushing through my HR work so I could dive deeper into plant magic—researching oils, making wellness plans, learning how these products could truly support people.
After six months, my “fun work” was bringing in a more stable income than my HR job, while taking up the same amount of time—except with exponentially more joy. That’s when we made the decision: I would go all in. And it was the best decision I ever made.
Here’s what’s changed since taking that leap:
I wake up without an alarm.
I get to blow bubbles with my son in the morning instead of rushing out the door.
I work when and where I want—whether it’s in my robe, my backyard, or late at night in pajamas.
Every day can feel like the weekend because I genuinely enjoy what I do.
I’ve traveled to more countries with Young Living than I ever thought I’d visit in my lifetime (Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and soon, Bali).
I have true time freedom.
And the craziest part? It doesn’t even feel like “work.” It’s just a natural part of my life. I get to connect with people, share what I love, build community, and dive deep into the literal magic of plants. I get to be creative, I get to educate, and I get to feel fulfilled.
So, no—this is not the typical MLM experience. I don’t cold message people. I don’t pressure anyone. I don’t ask people to “join my team” (unless they want to). I simply share my journey and answer questions.
And if any part of this story resonates with you—if you’ve ever craved more time freedom, more flexibility, more joy in your work—let’s talk. Maybe this is something for you, too. Maybe it’s not. Either way, I’d be honored to guide you.
And if you’re just here for the oils? Amazing. Now you know a little more about the passion and purpose that fuels everything I do—and how I can best serve you.
